My inspirational person that I look up to is Colin Allen.
You might know him as the World Federation of the Deaf President.
I look up to him because of his amazing support to many Deaf communities all over the world.
I would like to tell a little bit more of who he his and his life so far.
Colin is an Australian and lives in Sydney and he is Deaf. His parents were also Deaf and as is his sister.
Colin has a daughter who eventually had a daughter of her own too. They are both hearing and live in London, UK.
Colin went to a Deaf school and wanted to go to University. He applied but was denied due to the fact he was Deaf.
He did not let that stop him, he found a way around it and became involved with the Australian Theatre of the Deaf.
The group traveled all over the world including America where they presented and performed there.
After the tour he returned to Australia and took up a project teaching Deaf people about ***/AIDS.
He explained about what it is and how to prevent it. He then got into University successfully and graduated with a
Diploma in Community Organizations. He decided to do more studies when he was asked by the Finland Association
of the Deaf to work in developing countries, he went ahead and did this. He's worked in numerous countries such as
Albania where he was an organizational advisor and supported the Deaf community to develop and grow.
In Kosovo, he was also an organization advisor, supporting the community to excel.
Serbia, he was a voluntary supporter focused in the areas of Sign Language interpreters, Deaf Youths and strengthening
the Deaf organization.
In Cambodia, he was a project advisor on the Deaf Development Programme.
The Balkan Region was also supported by Colin.
Colin has been involved in a board before. The board was the New South Wales Association of the Deaf (NSWAD)
where he was involved for many years.
He then went onto the Australian Association of the Deaf where he eventually became the president of.
From 2003 onwards, he has been on the board of the World Federation of the Deaf (WFD).
Recently in 2011, he was elected and became the president of WFD. Colin is my inspiration to look up to.
Gratitude and kudos to Colin.
