[MUSIC PLAYING]
SHARA: Volunteerism puts a face on our company.
Volunteerism shows our communities where we live and work how important they are to
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas.
BERT: So Preston, who the heck is Cherry Jefferson?
PRESTON: Cherry Jefferson is a superstar in our office there in Houston.
BERT: So I thought we were doing this video thing because she sings and dances.
PRESTON: No she does much more than that. She's the, to use a football metaphore, she's
a star on and off the field.
LORI: Cherry's involvement in the community has given her a sense of pride and I can see
see that as the Director of Provider Contracting in all of her interactions with all of her providers.
SHARA: Cherry is at almost every event we have. She does not just show up, she shows
up with enthusiasm, she engages with people in the community, she sings and dances, it's
obvious she's having a great time every time she shows up at one of our community events.
BERT: Hey Cherry congratulations, Texas Volunteer of the Year.
[CHEERING AND CLAPPING]
CHERRY: It's like it's one of the greatest honors of my career. Even though it's not
directly related to my job, I wouldn't have had that opportunity I've had here without
working for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas. I feel so honored to do something that
I took great joy from, that I was proud doing and that was just overall a lift for me in
my weekend when I would go out and do something I would feel so great about it, but to be
rewarded for that or be acknowledged for that is just a wonderful honor.
BERT: What sets us apart at Blue Cross being who we are is what we do in the communities
and the fact that you're out there volunteering and doing that is just absolutely wonderful.
So thank you so much.
CHERRY: Thank You.
