Here you can see a river in it's middle course. As you can tell, it meanders slightly.
This is because of the helicodial flow which starts the whole process.
As it meanders,
the fastest flow of the water is on the outside of the meander and the slowest on the inside.
This means that there is erosion on the outside and deposition on the inside.
As time goes by, the erosion continues. Umm, aa. The meander becomes rounder until the river makes a new, shorter way
which results in the joining of the two parts of the river,
therefore no more water will flow through the meander.
This means that after a while it will be cut off from the river,
making an ox-bow lake which will dry up and leave an ox-bow scar.
