Here I'll be discussing recording, mixing and mastering costs. Now these are two, or
rather three rather expensive parts of your project. When you're writing a song in your
room on your own, of course there's no money involved. But when you start involving studios
and other people who are going to be recording and making your project a reality, it can
become very expensive. Now we'll talk about how to find the right studio, but essentially
as far as money goes, that will be determined by your budget. So you might look at some
lower end studios being maybe twenty-five dollars an hour for the engineer and the studio.
Now if you have an engineer that's coming into the studio to record somewhere, you're
not only going to have to pay for the studio time, but you'll also have to pay for the
engineer. Now you might also have to pay for assistants, but usually that's included in
the charge of the studio. Now as far as mastering goes, you're going to be paying for the studio
and the mastering engineer. Usually they'll lump that into one sum, but that can be very
expensive too. Do some shopping around. Find out what your budget will allow you to get,
and also mixing. Mixing is probably going to be in the same studio where you record,
but not necessarily. Again, you're going to need a mixing engineer and have to pay for
studio time.
