Laser treatment in nasal obstruction... There are some structures in the nose and
the patients can not know which of these can be treated with laser surgery.
We use laser reduction surgery in turbinate hypertrophy.
Unfortunately this method is not yet available in routine ENT training in Turkey.
Also laser technology is not available in all medical centers or hospitals.
After specialization in ENT, a long continuing medical education is required on this issue.
We use laser only in inferior turbinate hypertrophy, which is resistant to medical treatment.
Generally we use Holmium:Yag laser, but there are different types of lasers like Neodymium
or Diode laser. Every laser has its own parameters during
intervention (frequency/power/energy).
Additionally there are different techniques to use.
Because of these reasons the success rates of nasal laser surgery shows fluctuation in results from surgeon to surgeon.
Our vision and technique is based on the long term experience and knowledge for many years.
In our practice, we never observed recurrence of turbinate hypertrophy in our cases.
Laser turbinate reduction is a comfortable technique for the patients which doesn't require any tamponade.
It is generally a same day procedure.
After the operation we have to see the patient for several times to clean the possible crusts
in the nose, which can help to increase the success of the operation.
