Champs sur Yonne. France.
The company Nicolas, founded in 1855, is based here.
Nicolas belongs to the German TII holding as a supplier for Heavy Haulage vehicles.
Beside Nicolas, the TII group also unites the Heavy Haulage professionals of Scheuerle and Kamag.
For about 30 years Nicolas has the Heavy Haulage Prime Mover „Tractomas" in its program.
With the Tractomas TR 10x10 they hold, according to the Guinness book of the records,
the officially biggest Prime Mover of the world in their portfolio.
Bauforum24 TV had a look at the newest Tractomas generation on-site in France.
At first glance, the main features of the Tractomas are the performance of approx. 1,000 hp
and then the main transmission with an additional
gear which allows for the extreme torque.
The complete Tractomas is approx. 10 m long,
3.40 m wide and 4.50 m high and can handle a total train weight of 600 t.
It gets clear already at the first look that the Tractomas
doesn't have to do a lot with an ordinary Prime Mover.
Merely the driver's cab from Renault still reminds of a conventional truck.
All other components are custom tailored by us.
The big flexibilty of the Tractomas 8x8 shown here
is primarily aimed at the mining business.
In this king discipline, customers have extremely high demands.
So the machine is equipped with all FOPS and ROPS devices,
with fire extinguish systems and double air conditioner. She is enough for all norms
and more has shown Nicolas once that we claim to be present also in this area.
For the drive Nicolas backs approved suppliers.
A Cat C27 diesel engine forms the heart.
This delivers about 1,000 hp from 27 liters of cubic capacity.
A 6 walk Allison automatic system and the ZF transfer gear ensure
that the 4000 newton meters are available also at the axes.
Three cooler packages take care that the Tractomas carries out his job also
under extreme conditions at 50 degrees centigrade of outside temperature.
An optimized interplay of all components is just
elementary in the special vehicle engineering.
Nicolas touches down here „Simultaneou's engineering".
We understand by simultaneous engeneering that the development areas
of mechanics and control develop a new product at the same time.
A thought-out vehicle concept already arises from maximum information exchange at
the development beginning with components coordinated with each other optimally.
This has an advantage for our customers.
You get a plus to operator kindness and reliability.
Moreover, the period of time gets enormously abbreviated
between planning and delivery of the vehicle.
The not loaded Tractomas reaches speedy 65 kilometers per hour.
Loaded as complete „Road Train" with 4 supporters
he still reaches 50 km/h on flat ground.
To still make a good figure with 600 tons of grades,
Nicolas offers an additional drive.
The Tractomas is available booster additional drive also with energy.
Grades can be overcome of more than 5% even in a very rugged area.
Over this additional drive considerably greater attraction/traction strength are possible.
With the new Tractomas, Nicolas would like to
participate in the lucrative Mining business primarily.
The performance data of the new top model are promising and could
continue the positive accents of the predecessor on the market.
