The National Zoo in Washington is celebrating after its nine-year-old African lion gave
birth to four adorable cubs.
The little lions are being closely watched by zoo staff using a webcam and they say the
cubs appear to be healthy.
Proud mother Shera has been given a private den space where she can bond with the cubs,
without the father or other members of the pride intruding.
And the Washington Zoo isn't the only one celebrating. In January, two African lion
cubs were born in San Diego Zoo and the cute brother and sister are starting to show their
baby teeth.
Over the past two decades, the number of African lions in the wild has decreased by 30 percent
because of poaching, disease and other factors.
