BeYachad Educational Institutes ó Yerucham and Netivot
With the establishment of the State of Israel, Ben-Gurion saw in the settlement of the Negev and the absorption of the mass immigrants
a significant condition for the continual existence of the state.
Much was done, but the social challenges are still present.
Ever since the 1980s, the "BeYachad" institutes work to bridge the social gaps.
The projects in Yerucham and Netivot function as a national model for answering these challenges.
Elyashiv Reichner, Journalist, Resident of Yerucham: "One of the novelties of the "gar'inim" settlement in Yerucham,
is the settling of people working in diverse fields in a development town in the periphery,
while also integrating in the town's daily life."
David Lev-Tov, Teacher in the Yeshiva in Netivot: "In the Yeshiva I learned that idealism isn't just a period in one's life,
a year, or two, or five during adolescence, but rather something you do your entire life,
you build it your entire life."
Tal Ben-Dror, Alumni of Midrasha in Netivot, Manager in Netivot's Youth Department: "I consider my work in the Youth Department a direct continuation from my studies in the Midrasha.
I really believe in a direct connection with the youth,
and I believe that the youth here in Netivot are the key to leading a significant change in the city."
Dr. Avi Picard, Lecturer in Department of Land of Israel Studies: "The fact that I came to Yerucham when I was 18 affected me in many areas:
first of all, we always stay youngósince it's the same ideology that inflamed us when we were 18
óand it's still relevant today."
Dozens of strong local families have stayed to live along with the graduates of the "BeYachad" institutes,
and contribute together in all areas of life.
These families are the strongest expression of the fulfillment of the dream.
"Thanks to the "gar'in" my daughter stayed to live near us in Netivot"
Shmulik Friedman, Director of the "BeYachad" Organization: "The most exciting, most terrific, thing is to be a member in a community of students
who have become best friends by belonging to a mutual revolutionary dream
of building an improved society, an integrative society, a pioneering society, a society of "shlichut" for life."
[Lighting of Torches Ceremony, Mount Herzl, Independence Day 2006]: "I, Shmuel Friedman Ben-Shalom,
moved to Yerucham 18 years ago with my family and the first "gar'in"
which built in the town its home and future
I have established there and in Netivot more than ten educational institutes, among them two Hesder Yeshivot,
which contribute to the towns and to the nation at large
around 130 families of the graduates of the institutions have settled in Yerucham and Netivot, along with excellent local young people."
The "BeYachad" institutes attract quality youth from the Center of the country
the youth undergoes a significant educational process in which he learns that National Service or learning in a Hesder Yeshiva, is not just for a short period, but a platform for "shlichut" for life.
Rabbi Eliyahu Blumenzweig, Head of the Hesder Yeshiva in Yerucham: "I think there is a major role for the Yeshiva's placement, and all the other circles that came to Yerucham thanks to the Yeshiva,
that made significant changes in Yerucham's social texture"
Hila Landau, Program Director in Elementary School: "We created this year, a special program, inside Netivot's older elementary school,
in which, alongside the children of the "gar'in", children from all parts of Netivot's population learn, together.
In this unique program, we aim to preserve children's motivation to learn and natural curiosity,
encourage reading, a thirst for knowledge, through many activities and experiences.
Around all these values we've consolidated a group of extremely diverse parents,
who are full partners in their children's education. 1 00:04:05,500 --> 00:04:08,000 Zuriel Rubins, Principal of Yeshiva High School in Yerucham: "It was one of the dreams that we dreamt, that we'd accept any child from Yerucham,
and from other places around the countryóBeer Sheva, Meitar, Rechovot, Ashdod, Ashkelon
kids stand in line to get in."
Elhanan Bloch, Student in Yeshiva High School in Yerucham, and World Bible Quiz winner: "In general, everyone knows each other, and there's a good atmosphere among people
people are different, it doesn't mean they can't connect to each other.
Rabbi David Assulin, Head of "Ahavat Yisrael" Hesder Yeshiva in Netivot: "The goal of our Beit Midrash is to nurture learned scholars,
I would even say that it's our dream, learned scholars, bright,
who would feel committedócommitted to the Torah, committed to the people, committed to the land
we hope that they too will have students who are also committed.
Such actions can change the face of Israeli society."
Rakefet Dvir, Occupational Therapist, Resident of Netivot: "During my National Service in the Center for Enriching Judaism,
I understood that the most important aspect in education, is not talking about values,
but rather their application in daily life."
The graduates of the "BeYachad" institutes, living in Yerucham and Netivot, learning and working
they integrate in the general lifestyle and take part in the social, economic and educational systems.
