I’ve heard all these warnings about a sick house, and now my air conditioner is giving
me a sore throat.
Do you see ice on the air conditioner?
It is supposed to be cold.
If there is ice on the air conditioner, which there shouldn’t be unless it is literally
freezing outside, you may have a refrigerant leak. That might be bothering you.
Of all the problems I have, that isn’t one of them.
Your AC naturally acts as a water condenser with droplets forming on the condenser coil.
How is the drainage?
My sinuses are draining pretty well into the back of my throat.
No, the AC drainage. If the drain tube is blocked, the water will accumulate in the
AC.
That could cause it to rust.
It would also create a perfect climate for mold to grow. Your AC’s inability to drain
could be leading to a whole mold colony.
That might even be the source of the mold growing in the air vents. We had those cleaned
recently.
If you aren’t cleaning the AC, dirt and grime could build up on it, killing its efficiency.
I’m allergic to dust.
Dirt on the outside coils will be on the outside unit unless your home is really dirty. The
AC won’t circulate that around the house.
I thought the solution might be cleaning it.
Sure, clean the outside unit. And change the AC air filters in case it is circulating the
same bad air around.
All our air filters are musty.
Maybe you need to install a dehumidifier. Then you won’t have cool wet air feeding
mold growth in the AC and your air vents.
I hope it is as simple as that.
You can always get the unit checked, cleaned and corrected by an AC repair man.
I wish I could say I’d sigh with relief but I’d probably choke up at the price tag.
With a solution in sight, you should be able to breathe easier.
