JACOB SOBOROFF: Hey, Jacob here.
Tonight, we've got Joseph Gordon-Levitt and over 450
of his closest friends taking his new TV show to the web
first-- a Socialympics-inspired short film that's
not safe for work, unless it's cool to cry at your desk.
And if you think Sherlock might be the greatest roommate ever,
think again.
MALE SPEAKER: Sherlock, can you deduct how much
I hate watching TV with you?
SHERLOCK HOLMES: Of course.
JACOB SOBOROFF: Spoiler alert, this is YouTube Nation.
[MUSIC PLAYING]
JACOB SOBOROFF: Joseph Gordon-Levitt's production
company has released a record, three books, 12 short films,
all with the help of several thousand artists
from all over the world.
If you're wondering how they achieved all that,
it goes a little something like this.
JOSEPH GORDON-LEVITT: My name's Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
And I'm working on a new television show.
It's something I've been working on for years now with hundreds
of thousands of people from all over the world.
And it's really different.
JACOB SOBOROFF: It's on Pivot, where I also host a show.
And what's cool is that the entire first episode
of this series launched on YouTube first.
And rather appropriately, the theme is firsts-- first kiss,
first time riding a bike, and for the author
of this short story, the first time she ever saw the stars.
ELLE FANNING: It was a personal miracle.
Stretching above me, in uncountable points of light
as far as I could see there were stars--
That's Elle Fanning.
She's just one of 426 contributing artists
in this episode alone.
If you want to find out more, head over
to HitRecord's channel.
Joe posts new videos every week.
ALI: For my New Year's resolution,
I bought a gym membership.
I haven't actually been yet, which was fine with me
until I saw this. "Dude Perfect" is already
huge for the trick shot videos.
But this new sketch series is getting a ton of attention.
MAN: Oh, dude, I'm almost out of gas.
I don't want to get stranded and have to run home.
I really wanted to work out today.
Soaking wet-- it needs at least another 45 minutes.
I'll drive.
Oh, dude, I can't go.
I gotta mow.
MAN: What, mow?
It's winter time.
MAN: We'll work out tomorrow.
ALI: It had me laughing, but I also
felt something I'm a little more familiar with-- shame.
I will be hitting the gym tonight.
Oh, but my yoga mat is at home.
JACOB SOBOROFF: Everybody makes mistakes, which is probably
why Vsauce's new video is actually
getting shared so much.
It's racked up over two million views since last week.
And it shows what a big roll mistakes
have had in the history of language, science, math,
and music.
VSAUCE: In "Hey, Jude," Paul McCartney misses a chord.
And if you listen closely, you can clearly
hear him say, [BLEEP] hell.
Seriously, it's in the actual song.
Go listen to it.
In fact, there's an entire website
that chronicles mistakes in Beatles songs.
JACOB SOBOROFF: It's gotta make you feel a lot better
knowing even Paul McCarthy makes big mistakes.
BEN: The Socialympics are right around the corner,
so Procter & Gamble put together this short film honoring,
what else, the moms of athletes.
This is the most shared video today.
And when you watch it, you'll immediately understand why.
[MUSIC PLAYING]
BEN: My mom was always the one picking me up, putting bandages
on my cuts, or washing the grass stains out of my soccer
uniforms.
Commenter Adrian Lopez put it best
when he said, "I think someone in my house
is chopping onions."
I love you, Mom.
JACOB SOBOROFF: In honor of the January 19th US season
premiere of the BBC's "Sherlock,"
Leigh Lahav hits us with this look
at what it might be like to live with Mr. Holmes himself.
And it's not as charming as you might think.
Be careful if you're not caught up
on "Breaking Bad" or "Mad Men" or "Gossip Girl."
Turns out Sherlock's the biggest spoiler of them all.
SHERLOCK HOLMES: Oh, come on.
It's right there.
Masuka knows about Dexter.
Dan is the gossip girl.
Nick and Jess won't make it.
Hodor is faking it.
He's the killer.
She's the mother.
They were dead all along.
JACOB SOBOROFF: Leigh's an animator based out
of Jerusalem.
And she's only been posting for eight months,
but she has already developed a huge following,
thanks to her mashups of cult hits, pop culture, and fan
girldom.
THOR: I did not cometh here for one of your tricks.
LOKI: Illusions, Thor.
A trick is something a *** does for money.
THOR: You must know that if you'll betray me,
I will kill you.
LOKI: I won't.
NARRATOR: He did.
JACOB SOBOROFF: Her channel's packed with great videos
chock full of Easter eggs.
And to start you down the rabbit hole,
we put together a playlist with some of her greatest hits.
The internet's full of videos of cats,
but rarely do we see videos from cats.
EARNEST: I'm Iris.
I know you don't sound like that.
Hey, Earnest here.
This is my cat, Iris.
And I've always wondered what she
does when I'm at work all day.
Now, thanks to this video from PetCeption,
I feel like I have a much better idea.
JACOB SOBOROFF: Thanks, Earnest.
If you want to see more pet POV videos,
head over to PetCeption's channel.
The fish one is a favorite.
If you find a video you think's cool,
let us know in the comments or tweet
us using the hashtag YouTubeNation.
Make sure to watch the playlists that are about to pop up.
They are guilt-free, except for the one
that might make you want to call your mom, in which case,
let her know we sent you.
Now, play us out-- Liam Lynch with a little "Tiger Train."
