It's no secret that "Navy talk" can seem
like a language of it's own. It can be
overwhelming to those who aren't 100% familiar
with Navy lingo, so we've decided to give you a
breakdown of some of our most widely used terms.
Let's start with the basics. Within the USN there
are C-N-O, C-A-P-T, C-D-R and many more dynamic,
diverse positions. They're all worth mentioning,
but we'd be here for days. As A Global Force For
Good, the Navy is jampacked with men and women who
protect our country. Among them are the SEALs, an
elite force within the Navy - we're sure you've
heard of them. It all starts at MEPS, where a
future sailor takes tests, selects a rating and
then, if eligible, takes the Oath of Enlistment.
Soon enough, you'll learn that everyone in the
Navy speaks entirely in acronyms. We don't want
you to be confused, newbie. So here are some other
acronyms that you may want to know: ASVAB,
A-F-Q-T score, N-R-O-T-C, JAG, C-T-I,
C-N-R-C, D-O-D, E-A-O-S, INTEL.
And just for fun, here's some Navy lingo you may
want to get acquainted with. The Mess Deck is
where you eat, a Rack is your bed, Geedunk is
candy or gum, the Galley is the kitchen, Berthing
is your bedroom and Scuttlebutt is a water
fountain. Also, interact with others at
