I was in a accident with an uninsured driver, now what happens? Virginia's one of those
funny places, again I've said this in other videos, where it's actually perfectly legal
to drive without insurance. You can walk down to the DMV, you can register your car, you
pay about $750. That allows you to drive your car in Virginia and you say to the Division
of Motor Vehicles, "I don't have insurance," and they say, "That's fine by us, we don't
really care." So there's lots of people driving that way and the question is, "What happens
if you get hit by one?" Now you've got medical bills, you're not working, you may have other
injuries. What happens? Well, you're going to want to turn to your own car insurance
uninsured motorist coverage. We recommend that everyone have at least $500,000 if not
a million dollars of coverage in uninsured motorist coverage. You'll find it's amazingly
cheap and because Virginia's one of those states where the guy who hits you might not
have any coverage at all, it's critically important that you buy this. But that's what'll
happen, it's that the claim will be adjusted by your own insurance company as though they
were standing in the shoes of the guy or gal who caused your accident. If you have any
questions on that, contact us. We have some great information both in video and in books
we've written about that will help you find your way through the uninsured motorist system.
