Today we’re going to be discussing what the California Child Abuse Central Index is
and what do you do if your name is on it? My name is Ryan McGlinn. I’m a criminal
defense attorney in San Diego, California who practices in juvenile law. The California
Child Abuse Index is a statewide index used for child abuse investigations. This index
reports allegations of physical, ***, emotional or mental, and severe neglect. People who
report to this index are child protective services workers, police department, sheriff’s
workers, or probation workers. It’s very important to determine whether or not you’re
on this index. You can do a search on the internet to determine whether or not your
name is listed on the California Child Abuse Central Index. Search the name of the index
online. They will be able to tell you a process that you have to go through to search the
database and get a printed result as to whether or not your name is listed on the index. It’s
very important that you do this at one time or another you were involved in the child
protective services system. Or even if you weren’t involved at all in the child protective
services system and you think that you might want to obtain a job working with kids (potentially
coaching, working at a school). If you find your name on the California Child Abuse Central
Index, it is very important that you consult an attorney who can advise you onto how to
request a hearing to get your name removed from this list. It is what’s called a grievance
hearing. That can be requested through the California Department of Justice. Here’s
what I want you to do. I want you to call my office. You need to speak to an attorney
who is experienced in handling these matters to get your name removed from this list. Call
me at 619-291-5115. My name is Ryan McGlinn. Thank you for joining me.
