TomoTherapy is a form of image-guided Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy that integrates
a CT Scan in the treatment to better target tumors and reduce radiation to healthy tissue.
The scan allows greater precision for the radiation treatment by pinpointing tumor mass.
TomoTherapy takes Intensity Modulated Radio Therapy to the next level by allowing doctors
to perform a CT Scan immediately before each treatment.
This daily CT imaging helps doctors guide targeted radiation beams precisely to the
patient’s tumor based on the anatomy of that patient on that day. They can then quickly
assess the need to modify future treatments with planned adaptive technology.
This form of pinpoint accuracy minimizes radiation exposure to healthy tissue that may surround
the tumor.
TomoTherapy is delivered in helical ‘slits’ which modulate the radiation ‘on’ or ‘off’,
thereby providing the most conformal image-guided IMRT available.
TomoTherapy is an advanced and versatile form of image-guided or IG IMRT. It can be used
to treat a wide variety of cancers, from the most common to the most complex.
