Have you always wondered why
You were so easily distracted by something while else
Doing your homework?
Or about that time when you failed your test
And you never knew why you failed it?
Well, join me and my team as we discover
And uncover the truths about procrastinating
In todays segment of: AP Psychology
And today were going to talk about the
ID and the Superego
The ID and the Superego are the Freudian terms
For the angel and the devil on your shoulder
The ID operates on instant gratification,
And is based on the pleasure principle.
The superego, on the other hand, is based on morals
And is the metaphorical angel to the devil of the ID.
Here we have Jason. Hes very angry at Paul
Because he didnt do Jasons homework for him.
His ID is saying that he should break Pauls TV with this golf club
Because it would make him feel really really good at the time.
But, his superego is telling him not to break the TV
Because he is afraid of the consequences that would ensue
If he broke it.
This is a classic example of the ID versus the Superego.
Everyone experiences this conflict every day and
We decided to test it.
Our project tests ones moral thoughts over their desire.
Through random assignment, we assigned 2 groups of 3
To finish a 10 problem worksheet.
3 of them were in the control group,
Which was the group without any distractions,
And the other 3 were in the tested group,
And they were given a bunch of distractions from internet sources
While they were doing their paper.
We predicted that if the number of distractions increased,
The people will take more time to complete it.
We used a timer to record our data.
We purposely placed videos and websites in front of the people
In the tested groups while they were doing the worksheet.
Based on our findings, we have discovered if one has social media
In the background, it takes them 15.5 minutes on average to
Finish the assignment, as compared to the 6 minutes completed
By the group that wasnt distracted by the social media.
In other words, the ID conquers the Superego.
And that concludes our segment on the ID and Superego.
We hope you enjoyed and I will see you next time.
[Here we have Will running to his car]
[Hes stepping in his car]
[Hes closing his door]
[Hes a fast driver]
[And that was Will Kohns]
And that concludes our segment on the ID and the Superego.
