This is TiesBaas, 82 years old en i think the oldest Dutch Twitterer at present. One
who supposed to be older turned out to be a fraud (21 years old).
Ties has been invited to twitter 15 months ago by his daughter. Could you pleae tel me
what happened next ? Well at first 2 years ago i got a laptop for
my birthday, during those months my daughther learned me how to use this laptop. I had a
desktopcomputer before. At one point she told me she had made a twitter
account for me. So i asked what Twitter was, and she explained and in december 2008 i started
to send my first tweets, actually mostly as from january 2009.
So i started twittering, surprisingly my daughter also made a weblog for me, and learned me
how to. I did a few postings, but it wasnÕt a great succes actualy. Partially since it
was a bit difficult with my eye-sightings at present.
Is twitter difficult ? NO, twitter it self isnÕt hard to use, but maintaining my twitter-network
costs time. Time i canÕt spend with older friends and family, they are way back in their
eigties who need attention.
So, it is a sur-plus and not in stead of other social networking.
Yes thatÕs the reason i doubt the whole social networking neighbourhood idea (presented here
today). Not as an idea, thatÕs really great, but not for ME.
Since it costs even more time ? Yes !
What would be the thing youÕd miss the most from twitter i fit wouldnÕt be available
anymore to you ? All my contacts and network. Since sometimes youÕr online at 5 am, no
? Yes or at 3 am. I love meeting there night-devils like @ooitgedacht whoÕs online until 2 -3
am, and some are early birds. All very nice things happend, but sometimes also dramatic
things. Like the lady a fourtnight ago who gave birth to a baby that sadly died 3 hours
after. Those things i reply to, emotionally, and got a reply back from her.
The strength of twitter is to meet people you would never meet or speak to. Just like
today. Just like the two of us (@zorg20), for the first time, after weÕve met on twitter
15 months ago. ThatÕs great.
What would your advice for elderly be, if they consider to Òge tintoÓ Twitter ?
I think that would be the advice to have someone near with expertise to support in the beginning.
A twitter-buddy so to speak.
Thanks i know your Cab is waiting, see you on twitter !
Likewise, Bye !
