Chiwetel!
Lupita!
It's something that's universal in the sense that it is about a man, and his love and his
courage and grace to try and get home to his family. It's not a history book story. It's
something that needs to resonate beyond that. At the same time, it's Solomon Northup's.
That is his story.
We only had 35 days, and we wanted to... I think we were all deeply, deeply moved by
Solomon Northup and his journey, so we were very bonded in the process of making the film
and telling the story.
I think what we did was just tell it because it was a story that was never told, and we
wanted to look at it. We wanted to gaze at it, and we wanted to tell that story and share it with the public.
And what will a win for the film tonight, what would that mean?
It would mean a lot. You know, it would mean the fact that people have accepted a certain
time in history, and you know, want to acknowledge it. At the same time, we've acknowledged it already,
so it doesn't really matter.
What would an Oscar win tonight mean for you?
Um, a lot.
