Announcer: Saints fans please turn your attention to the big screens
to honor today’s Peoples Health Champion
Myrna Jordan.
Jim Tucker: On November 11, 2010 at age of 74, Myrna Jordan launched
the expansion of Our Daily Bread, a regional food bank
located in Hammond, Louisiana that she’s directed for the last ten years.
Myrna Jordan: I’m 74 years old and I love doing this because I’m helping people and
I see myself doing it for a long time.
Jim Tucker: The new facility will also allow Myrna
to extend the benefit of Our Daily Bread services to even more people in need.
She works diligently with truckers who come through Hammond
as a distribution point to make sure that things that they can’t deliver
or extra things that they may have get dropped off at her facility so that
she can use them to help people all over the region.
She’s a dynamo in this area; she’s put people to work
in volunteer roles to help other people and has changed
the community in Hammond.
Myrna is a vivacious person, when you meet her you realize
she is on a mission. She’s got things she wants to accomplish
through Our Daily Bread. And after ten years of using her
experience and wisdom her expansion here is going to
help create opportunity to serve many, many more people in the area.
Myrna Jordan: It’s important to have interests,
it keeps you young and you make lots of wonderful friends.
Jim Tucker: Congratulations Myrna, thank you for being an inspiration to us all.
