Hello everyone! This is my first video commentary so
if you see a lot of cuts
it's because I've probably messed up; made some mistakes.
what I want to talk about today is
argument
Pascal's Wager.
For those who don't know what that argument yes
it's an argument that basically says
if you don't believe in God
then
your option
is to burn.
So someone will say something to the effect of:
If I'm wrong -
so what if, as a christian, if I'm wrong
then
nothing's gonna happen to me.
If I'm wrong, and your you're correct that there is no God
(that no God exists)
then nothing's going to happen to me; there's just nothingness.
However,
-and this is the argument that theists will make-
If I'm correct and YOU'RE wrong
then you're going to go to Hell.
So that's the argument.
The argument basicially is:
God or No God.
And if the Atheist is wrong,
basically what they're saying is, as a Christian,
if they're wrong, they have nothing to lose.
So, I'm going to talk about why this argument...
I'm tired of hearing this argument, and I'm going to talk about why.
For one,
You're basically hedging your bet, right?
You're basically saying that
you're believing in Him (God) basically as just an insurance policy.
Now, the problem with that is
if that's your reason for believing
Or if that's your excuse, I should say,
wouldn't God know? Wouldn't God see through that?
...see that you are just believing in him to save yourself from Hell and
therefore, your belief is it really based on
anything realistic. So that's the first reason that
it's a logical fallacy. So the second reason is
-and this is the one I normally talk about-
What if YOU'RE wrong?
What if you've been worshiping the wrong god? What if, instead of the Christian God,
the God of the Bible
the god of the Qura'an is real?
So now, you have been worshiping the wrong god;
you should have been following the Qura'an.
And now because didn't, YOU go to Hell.
(you go to the Muslim version of Hell)
Or, let's say that it's Zeus.
You get up there, and it's Zeus. Or wherever you go.
So now you have not been worshiping Zeus; you been worshiping Yahweh
(the god of the Bible).
That would mean you're going to Hades.
Or it could be any number possibilities.
It's not just the Christian God or no God at all
which is what many Christians seem to think.
It's your god,
a bunch of other gods or no god.
So, that's why that argument
basically falls flat on its face.
I guess I just wanted to talk about-- that's the reason I made this video because I want to
talk about why I'm tired of hearing it and why that argument makes no sense.
When you pull that out it's
demonstrably ridiculous. You haven't considered all the sides you only consider
your side versus my side.
So, when I get into anotherI discussion on Facebook or or even in person
and someone trots this out, I mean it doesn't hold any weight.
It's one of the basically
easiest arguments to dismantle.
So, please:
Theists, if you're engaging a discussion with me, which I'm okay with, I'm okay with
having a conversation and
being civil, but when you
throw this argument out there I can't do anything with that.
so that's all I got for now. We'll talk later!
