I have lived my life being oppressed,
wonder for which crime am I getting this punishment, I can't remember.
These people standing in long queues
in the hope of getting a few thousand rupees in pension
have been waiting here for several hours.
After serving the country in their youth,
these people have no respite even in their old age.
To receive pension, these people arrive
at the GPO early morning every day
hoping that their turn will come soon.
MAQBOOL HUSSAIN (PENSIONER): We give sacrifices for this country
and this is what we get in return, we come for pensions
but do not get pensions entire day long.
What is our fault? we should be told
or our pensions should be withdrawn.
and we will sit and beg.
If it is our right, then give it to us.
Last year in October, after waiting for too long for his pension,
a former railway employee lost his life.
At that time, a lot of claims emerged of easing the pension collection system.
but within a few days, everything went back to the same.
Whether it is hot summer or chilling winter,
waiting in long lines has become the fate of pensioners.
RABNAWAZ KHAN (PENSIONER): We come here on the first of every month.
Around 1200 to 1700 people are already gathered here.
so old people like us, who have spent half of our lives over there,
spend the other half struggling here.
Civilised nations give every facility to
people in their old age
who have served the nation,
but here, it is the opposite,
After spending a huge portion of their lives serving the country,
the age of these people is to rest.
but to receive their pension now they are forced to go through this trouble.
