American Plumber WGCHD Granular Activated Carbon Filter
Hey everyone, Tony the Filter Doctor. Today we’re looking at the American Plumber WGCHD.
This is an industry standard size cartridge, approximately 10 inches in length and 4 ½
inches in diameter, which means it’s going to fit into a vast selection of industry standard
size filter housings, like for example, the popular Pentek HD950 and many others.
Now, this is a standard axial flow granular activated carbon filter. And though this filter
is often described as a whole house filter, it is rarely the best choice for that application,
because it will cause flow restriction and pressure loss. The axial flow design limits
the flow of water to these slots on the bottom of the filter, and then the water is forced
to rise up through the entire bed of granular activated carbon. Well, that’s great for
contaminant reduction because you get a lot of contact time, but it causes significantly
pressure loss and flow restriction. Radial flow granular activated carbon filters are
a better option in most cases. Now, this filter will work very nicely in
a small home with no more than two residents, and it could be used as a dedicated filter,
either as a drinking water filter or a dedicated zone in the home. Maybe you have a filter
that filters just the water going to your primary rest room so that you don’t have
chlorine in that zone of the house. It could be used in those kinds of applications.
Now this filter is NSF Standard 42 certified for material quality and will reduce chlorine
taste and odor, organic and inorganic contaminants, and of course, sediment.
Filter life is approximately 12,000 gallons, but this varies depending on your unique water
conditions. Again, this is the American Plumber WGCHD,
and I’m your host Tony the Filter Doctor. Thanks for watching.
