Hey this is Sean from sleepinglikealog.com, a site that shows you how to buy a mattress
and how to get better quality sleep, and in this video I'm gonna be reviewing the Simmons
Beautyrest Recharge Series Mitzi Pillow-top.
I would describe this feel as a medium-soft. It's relatively firm from within, but the
pillow-top will add a certain amount of softness--not too soft though. So I would say like on a
scale of 1 to 10, 1 being super firm and 10 being really super soft, this is probably
right about a 7.
This mattress is best for side sleepers and back sleepers. Not so much stomach sleepers,
in my experience stomach sleepers tend to do better more on non pillow-tops. But for
side sleepers, back sleepers this is great because when you're on the side--when you're
on your side the pillow-top will help conform a lot better. It will help get rid of those
pressure points, and when you're on your back you're gonna notice that it conforms really
well, it will fill in that spot between your lower back and the mattress, your shoulder
area will sink down a little bit further, and it keeps you in a pretty natural, nice
alignment.
This is also for couples who want to find a mattress that's pretty soft, but that will
help reduce a lot of motion transfer so they don't feel each other tossing and turning
in bed.
This mattress uses the classic Beautyrest pocketed coil system, which means each innerspring
sits in its own piece of fabric, so there's no actual metal on metal contact in the entire
system. It's an 800 coil density, and this is great for reducing motion transfer. This
is the thing that Beautyrest--Simmons Beautyrest has been known for for many many years. If
you remember the old bowling ball commercials where the guy would drop a bowling ball on
the mattress and it would create like no motion, that's what this is right here.
Ok so as far as the pillow-top goes, it has (2) 1" layers of AirCool Foam, which is a
type of polyurethane foam that's channeled, and it's supposed to promote greater air flow
throughout the mattress. It also has a 2" layer of Plush Comfort Foam, which is like
a polyurethane--a soft type of polyurethane foam. And it has a 1/2" layer of GelTouch
foam, which is a polyurethane foam that's been infused with gel. And it also has a layer
of--a 1/2" layer of Luxury Firm Comfort Foam, which is another type of polyurethane foam.
As far as customer satisfaction goes for this mattress, so far the feedback has been very
positive. This is a pretty new model, it was just released several months ago, and since
then it's quickly become one of the most popular pillow-tops on the showroom floor for me.
And I think it's because it's very comfortable for the price range, usually it's right around
$899 or $999 for a queen, and it's very comfortable.
Feedback for Simmons Beautyrest in general over the years has always been mixed. And
I've noticed that people tend to either really love and stay very loyal to the Simmons Beautyrest
brand, or they just don't care for it. But the people who tend to like Simmons, they
tend to buy it over and over and over, and they have their family members buy it as well.
Very quickly some positives and negatives for this mattress. Pros, it's very comfortable,
great for back sleeping, great for side sleeping, the individually wrapped pocketed coil system
is very nice, it works really well for eliminating motion transfer. Maybe not quite as well as
something like memory foam, but it works very good for an innerspring mattress.
It also conforms better to the body. It seems to keep you in a much more natural alignment
especially when you're sleeping on your side. Another positive for this mattress is it's
pretty affordable for most people. Like I said earlier, $899-$999 seems to be about
the price range for this particular model. And...it's a good value.
As far as negatives go on this mattress, one of the biggest negatives in my opinion is
the fact that Simmons participates in the "different model name game." So, this--I'm
reviewing the Mitzi pillow-top, but there could literally be hundreds of different model
names across the country for the exact same model here. So each retailer gets to pick
out there own model name, basically. And it's just a frustrating experience, it's not customer
friendly and it's highly irritating if you're trying to do any sort of research on this.
So, keep in mind that this is--basically you know--this is gonna be like the entry level
for the new Recharge series. So, this is the entry level pillow-top. If you see something
that looks similar to this, but it's got a different name, chances are it's probably
the same one.
Another potential negative on this mattress is sagging is probably likely. That has been
an ongoing complaint for Simmons Beautyrest for for years now. And especially with any
sort of pillow-top like this where there's lots of soft types of polyurethane foam, body
impressions are gonna show up, and they're just gonna kinda linger there--they're not
gonna pop back up. So, keep in mind that sagging is probably inevitable on this mattress, at
least at about the 3, 4, 5-year mark.
