St Patrick's Day has kicked off in Chicago. Thousands of residents and tourists gathered
in the downtown area of the city to see that famous river go green.
Oh, it's green!
I always think of slime. Like Ghostbusters.
Boats could be seen on the river including a rowing team leading cheers and applause.
Many were dressed in celebratory green outfits to remember the patron saint of Ireland.
It wasn't just the river that turned green, many emerald floats could be seen in the annual
parade which included local army unit soldiers marching in uniform and Gaelic troop bands
playing traditional Irish songs.
St Patrick's Day has been celebrated in the US for over 270 years because of the high
population of people of Irish decent there. These residents said just what the parade
means to them.
This is the St. Paddy's Day parade, and we're having a lot of fun here.
-It's good to be with friends. -Sharing you happiness with everybody.
