Thanks for tuning in for our educational video about a process called Reverse Decorating.
I'm Josh Ellsworth with Stahls' CADCUT Direct, and this video is published in conjunction
with an Impressions Magazine article on Reverse Decorating.
So in the article which you may have read already, if not you can visit impressions
magazine dot com to read it, you probably learned about reverse
decorating with the screen printing process.
That's great.
Screen printing is great for repetitive jobs and decorating mid volume to high volume quantities,
but if you want to do one, two, three, four, five, up to
twelve...twenty-four shirts even the customization process, you need to look at a heat applied
graphics technology.
And, this is the CADCUT process.
So we have shirts today that are burnout shirts, they're kind of shear, this bluish grey one
we'll decorate today with CADCUT materials.
So reverse decorating basically means that we are going to actually decorate the inside
of the shirt.
And since its shear, when the person is wearing it and you look through at the decoration,
you're going to see a nice faint image and really just a good
clean look on this shirt.
So one of the first considerations is what color film compliments my shirt.
So we manufacture a lot of different films and it's important to choose the one that
fits nicely for this process.
So, keep in mind with this process the adhesive side of the film is actually what you'll see
coming through the shirt.
So you want to pick something that really pops from the adhesive side, because most
of the colors typically on the other side of the film.
So this may be a bad choice, it's a little bit dull in finish.
This may also be a bad choice.
The product that I do like for this process is called SuperFilm and that's because it's
very vibrant on the adhesive side.
And we're going to use Royal Blue today because it compliments this shirt.
Also it goes well with Royal Apparel dot net, who donated the shirts.
So let's show you the process.
Load your roll in your vinyl cutter of choice, then output your design from your vector graphics
program.
Once the designs completed cutting, weed away the excess material.
For those of you experienced with vinyl cutting, you'll notice that I actually cut this design
in the positive which is not normal for this process.
But with the reverse decorating technique, that's what's needed.
So I'll just complete my weeding and then we'll heat apply.
Before you load your garment on the heat press you want to remember to turn it inside out.
Once it's inside out you can load it, and be sure to have it with the front side facing
up if you want your design to be on the front of your shirt.
Make sure you have a flat area, then position your design.
Remember, you don't want to position your design in the positive; you want to flip it
over so the film side is actually meeting the garment.
Your shirt is inside out...I always recommend using a cover sheet with this process because
it's inevitable that one time you'll transfer it upside down and get
it on your heater.
So just use a cover sheet, it's a good habit with this process.
Then press for the recommended time, temperature and pressure.
(machine beeps)
Release the heat applied film's backing according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
This particular one needs to cool down before we can peel it.
Release the backing, and let's take a look at this reverse decorated burnout shirt with
CADCUT materials.
So let's examine our finished result.
As you can see, thicker areas or larger coverage areas of the design tend to standout better.
Also, it varies greatly on how much your image stands out based on the pattern or the texture
of the shirt.
You can see were the burnout shirt in darker areas the image doesn't stand out as well.
So that's something to consider.
One final thing to consider is the thickness of the film that you choose.
While this doesn't have an effect on the look of the design, it does effect how comfortable
the wearer of the garment is.
So be sure to choose a thin film that matches up with the fabric of your shirt.
So to conclude, one things for certain, these types of garments are growing on popularity.
You need to decorate them.
Why not choose the Reverse Decorating process?
Whether customizing with CADCUT, or decorating with screen printing, the choice is yours.
You can make money in 2010.
Best of luck with your business.
