What we are going to do is we are going to add a little bit of a softness to this image
so it has an ethereal effect as well as apply really cool color and tone
effect. Alright let's merge everything to a new layer
shift option command E and name this layersoft. Next we are going to navigate to our Filter
drop down and you blur and choose Gaussian Blur.
Yes believe it or not we are going to apply Gaussian Blur to the image Click OK.
Now we are going to hold down the Option key on a Mac Alt key on the PC and click on the
Add Layer Mask icon. Next with our Brush tool we are going to paint
with white and I am going to paint 50% opacity to add some really tense smoothing to the
skin.
And I want to add it just to some specific areas, zoom in a little bit here.
And I want the hare to have too much this softness.
20% there for the eyebrows, nose a little bit.
Let's take our brush opacity to 50% by pressing 5 on the keyboard and then make the brush
a little bit bigger by pressing the right bracket key and then
paint on the background. And what I am looking to do here is to soften
up some of the details of the background and I am using a bigger brush
because these larger areas of skin on background I can get away with it.
I will actually increase my brush size even more and I am going to increase it by pressing
the right bracket key and then paint around the image because I am looking to try
to create this ethereal effect and I have a soft edge brush that's going
to soften up all of these edges and make this image look really nice.
Alright let's look at before and after very nice make sure we are not softening the lips
so I will paint with black it 100% make sure we don't have
any softening on the eyes but there is nice and sharp.
Alright the image is now soft and smooth and ethereal before and after make sure that's
looking good over the opacity a little bit here we don't
want to go quite that far with it, before and after, nice okay.
Next thing I want to do is I want to apply unique color and tone look to this image so
I am going to create a new layer and I am going to create a hue saturation
adjustment layer desaturate this all the way. Now you have seen this effect before having
here. What we are going to do next is take this
to our blend mode of soft right now that's kind of interesting,
right that's where we get that really punchy look there, nice muted tones.
I am going to click in this layer I am going to lower this because I don't want to be quite
so intense and then I want to modify even further.
Couple of different ways I can modify this. One is double click this layer in advanced
blending I can bring back some of the detail my blacks you can kind
of see the effect as pulled off in those blacks. I want to bring those up just a little bit
also in my whites it's more dominant there with this image right
and then split those sliders that way I have this transition that can dial in how much
the effect I actually want and click OK. Now here is our before and after with that
interesting muted color and tone effect. Another way we could do that is click on our
adjustment layer icon and choose black and white and dial in a black and white mix
that we want here, make mine a little bit darker this time, click OK.
Next take this a blend mode of Soft Lights. Again we have that really interesting color
and look. I like this one a little bit better.
I like that high contrast look. Now if I want to bring back some of my blacks
one way to do that would be to click on the Adjustment Layer icon choose Levels
bring up our output levels there click OK and then hold down the Option key
on the Mac, Alt key on a PC and apply that adjustment to the layer immediately below
it. Look it up, before and after just bring it
back some of the detail in the blacks zoom it on the eyes
so you can see what I am referring to, before and after
so that will print a little bit better, won't it, now that we have that effect.
Alright well that wraps up our work on softening the skin and adding this unique color and
tone. Let's take a look at how we are doing so far
overall. Here is our before and after very good let's
keep going I will see you in the next movie.
