You watched us design and build this house in 150 days, but the work is far from over.
We're about to jump into my favorite part of the process of bringing all this together.
Join me for an exclusive look right here on eHow Home. You know, back at the warehouse,
you were mentioning that you liked this antique piece and I told you we had reproduced it.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. No, look at this. Does that look familiar to you? It does, it does. So
this is new? It's brand new and it's made out of brand new wood. Wow. This finish is
something and it took us a long time to learn how to do -- we're real proud of it. This
is 100 percent Cyprus. Is it really? Yes, indigenous to this county. Right, right, look
at that. Generous drawers, lots of cabinet space, and there's even the beadboard and
everything back there. All Cyprus. That is fantastic. Very good. This finish is really
amazing, Paul. It's got that sort of shabby chic look to it. It's, you know -- it's made
to depict an antique -- Or Vintage piece -- that's been painted several times. Right, right.
And worn through and cracked and all that sort of thing. It's very much in vogue at
this point. Well, it feels like there's almost -- you used a beeswax finish or something
on it. It's applied as a last step so that it looks like -- gives it some patina in different
areas and have different shines and that sort of thing. But, you know, just about anything
can be achieved if you're willing to work hard enough on it. Well, you know, the finish
on something -- you know, color is certainly very important, but the way a piece is finished
out is equally important, in my opinion. Actually, it's not equal, it's more. You think so? It
costs more to finish it than it does to build it. Ah. Including the cost of the material.
Really? It costs more to finish. There's just so much labor in it, I guess. Incredible amount.
All this has to be hand rubbed several times. I see. And if you noticed, this wood is worn
in the right places. Well, looking across the room at it, I mean, I was convinced it
was an antique. That's how I started in business -- I was in the antique business, and so thing
need to look right, you know? Now this has a mirror above it. Is it attached or is that
something that's… Totally -- same finish, but a totally separate arch style. This is
a copy of a European piece that I bought that came out of a cathedral over there. It was
probably one of those -- what do you call those things where the Saints are… A sacrosanct?
Yeah, yeah, something sort of thing like that. Right. It was an architectural salvage, and
we've got the original piece over in the warehouse. Yeah. They did a great job on it, I think.
It's beautiful. Well, the ensemble works very well together. What I like about it is that
it doesn't protrude too much. I mean, as an antique copy, the form of it, I think, works
really well for a modern house. It doesn't stick out too far and there's tons of storage
in that thing. What adds to it is the original antique was a dark brown dirty looking something.
Heavy looking. Yeah, heavy looking and it would only go in a certain decor. This actually
offers a more diverse application. Beautiful. You know, a piece like this could actually
be used in lieu of just a classic dresser in a bedroom. You think you're gonna use it
with that Gothic headboard? I think it could work. I mean, I really do. Question of finish
for sure? Yeah, yeah. If we get the finishes right, I think. Yeah. Okay, I'm gonna be back
in just a second. Okay? Alright, I wanna see some more. Hey, whether we use this or not,
the only way you're gonna know is stay tuned. And we got a lot in store. And make sure you
subscribe to eHow Home.
