Hey what's up, this is Sean from sleepinglikealog.com. I do mattress reviews and I help people buy a new bed, and today I'm gonna be doing a review on the Saatva Luxury Firm mattress. Now, this is the bed that I sleep on, this is my personal mattress. We're here in my apartment, I'm still gonna try to be as objective as possible and talk about the positives as well as the negatives. So I went with the luxury firm because to me it's the ideal feel. I don't want to be in a mattress that's too soft because I dislike feeling like I'm too far into the mattress. But then again I don't like it if it's too firm either, so to me this is the perfect combination of firmness and comfort. On a scale of one to ten, one being really firm and a ten being super soft, I would give this a 5. So it's like right in the middle, not too hard, not too soft. So construction on this mattress is really good and it rivals mattress costing like $2000 more. I'll start with the cover, it's an organic cotton cover, so it's really cool, it's really breathable. Underneath that it has a plant based natural thistle barrier, and they use that to pass the fire retardant tests without using tons of harsh chemicals. Underneath that there's an inch and a quarter of Super Soft plant based foam, and then under that there's another layer of, there's a five eights of an inch layer of Soft Foam, and then in the middle, right where your lower back is on the mattress, there's three eights of an inch of Visco memory foam, and that's a plant based memory foam. So then there's their coil on coil unit which is made from recycled tempered steel. And what that means is in this top section here is a series of individually wrapped coils. It's an 884 coil count for a queen size, and that's what conforms to the body and helps make it nice and comfortable. Now those sit on top of a lower innerspring system, which is a really thick, heavy duty gauge bonell coil. It's a thirteen gauge, 416 count and that's what gives it the strength, so that's where the sort of deep down back support comes from. So the two systems they work, um -- together to keep you in a nice natural alignment. It feels great, it really works well. So, Saatva's mattresses come in two different thicknesses. You can get a custom slim eleven inch option, or the fourteen and a half inch option. That's what I did, I got the fourteen and a half. That sits on top of their foundation which is a wood foundation. And it's also got the organic cotton cover too which is pretty cool. Um I went with the four inch option. There's two of these, so you can either do this low profile four inch version or an eight inch version. I just did the four because I like the look. Total thickness from the floor to the top of the mattress is twenty seven inches for this set up here. Saatva is a fairly new company, so you may not have heard of them yet. They started in 2010, and they're sold only online so their beds are not in any stores. And, the reason why that is is because they don't believe in the traditional -- the traditional way of buying a mattress. They don't believe in hyper inflated prices and phony sales and like crazy exchange policies and that sort of thing. So, they had an idea, their idea was they could make the best mattress for the money, make it eco-friendly, and sell it only online. That way they can sell the mattress for like 70% less because they wouldn't have to be paying all this money for like stores, rent, utilities, you know super high commissions and that sort of stuff. So...and it's worked. It's really worked out well for them, they're now the highest rated mattress on google. So I'll talk about positives and negatives. First the positives, price. Price is definitely one of the biggest. This set was $1149, which is pretty good in my opinion. If this were in a retail store -- this same mattress sold in a retail store, they would mark it up to $2499 to $2799, that range right around there. So by buying online you end up saving a ton of money. Another positive is that it's an eco-friendly mattress. This is a green mattress. They really wanted to make it a point to use eco-friendly foams, have the foams certified to be environmentally friendly, free from toxic VOC's, harmful chemicals, formaldehyde and all that bad stuff. And I think they did a really good job doing that. More than anything for me the biggest positive is just how comfortable it is. I'm a back sleeper and side sleeper, and to me this is the perfect, ideal combination of firmness and padding on the top part. Um, I've tried out more expensive mattresses than this, you know I've tried out $20,000, $30,000 beds. I've even tried out a $90,000 mattress. Is this as comfortable as a $90,000 mattress? No. But it's perfect for me and it really works. I love it. As far as negatives go, while this is an organic cotton cover and it is an eco-friendly mattress, this is not a 100% organic mattress. Not everybody realizes that there are actually totally 100% organic mattresses out there, but the downside is the price goes way up to be certified organic and all that sort of thing, so. Another negative is this mattress is not adjustable base friendly. That's not necessarily an issue for me because I don't use an adjustable base, but if you're planning on buying a mattress to use with an adjustable base this won't work because of the coil on coil construction. It just won't fold. Some people might see the fact that you can't try this bed out before buying it as a negative, which I fully understand. They understand that too which is why they have such a really good exchange policy. I think if you're open to taking a small risk you'll be pleasantly surprised, you know. They don't run sales that "end tomorrow." They don't do high pressure sales tactics. And you know they don't charge you an arm and a leg if you have to do an exchange. So, they really worked hard to make a really good experience for you. Alright so that's it for the review. I hope it helped you out.
