What I really value about USF St. Pete is the attention that I get
in every class.I haven't a single class where I was just a number
I think that is a key to opportunity, that is a key to learning.
Even though it's small you can really grow
in this environment, you can become
a professional.
Your professors respect you; they don't just teach you but they want to get to
know you; they keep in touch with you and they want to know how you're doing. So it
makes you feel
like you are a part of the university not like just a student that attended.
Younger people like myself
were made aware of traditional journalism
and that w'ere also being taught about new journalism, online journalism and how
with this
overload of news and all of these networking sites how to adjust
and make the transition. So it was just this great balance of people who have
years and years of experience and some who are newer
and they were teaching us about the industry is a whole which really helps
people like myself who are coming in blind
how to adjust and
put ourselves out there in the field and feel comfortable with what we've learned.
I think one of the best skills I got was,
took a course with Tony Sylvia on principles of interviewing
It allowed me to really understand how to ask a good question and how
to ask one question at a time, how to people time to answer that question.
I thought that was
really instantly usable
and not only usable by journalists but anybody I mean how many times do you go
out and have to ask people
to get information from them and you have to figure out the best and most
efficient way to do that.
