Hi, I'm John Miller CEO of the American Red Cross on Long Island and we're here in our Mineola
headquarters today to announce a grant for a million dollars to the United Way
that will be providing subgrants to three outstanding organizations here on Long Island.
The Hispanic Brotherhood, La Fuerza Unida and Adelante of Suffolk County.
These agencies are going to work in a disaster case management mode
to provide services to survivors of Superstorm Sandy
and we're very thrilled to announce this grant here today.
The United Way is an outstanding partner for the Red Cross. We look forward
to the good work all these agencies are going to be doing.
So the United Way will be hiring two construction case managers to support the effort
and our three subgrantee agencies will have between them six more positions
of disaster case managers to help people recover
come through the unmet needs roundtable, get the resources they need, make sure that people
are moving towards the Red Cross Move-in Assistance Program and
just really from a cultural competencies standpoint as well
making sure our Latino families are included in that recovery response.
Red Cross is wonderful. They showed leadership in terms of
reaching out to trusted community agencies.
You can always count on them no matter what types of disaster and needs in the communities.
They with United Way will supervise this grant.
We can really deliver the service to the most needed in Long Island.
