John Drebinger here, watching out for everyone's safety. As a service to my clients I've provided
the following video announcement. As you know, safety is a value and because you have a world
class safety culture we wanted to notify you of the latest government regulation that will
help you get home safely everyday. Beginning next month, all buildings with staircases
higher than three steps must provide special staircase fall protection systems to all employees.
Now you will have the peace of mind knowing that as you're using the stairs you'll be
safe doing so. In order to comply with the new government policies, we've instituted
our new staircase fall protection standard. Whenever you're going to use a staircase that's
over three steps high you must use the official staircase protection harnesses. These will
ensure a safe journey up or down any staircase in our facilities. Your office safety leader
will arrange appointments for you to be fitted with your own personal fall protection harness.
You should make space available in your office to keep the harness ready in case you choose
to use the stair instead of the elevator. This introduction video is not proper training
in how to use the harness and lanyard as each location will have customized equipment for
your site and your local safety team will train each of you in the proper use of the
equipment. But what if we have visitors to our site you
ask. No problem as we'll have guest harnesses available at the opening to every staircase.
Failure to use the staircase harness will result in your having to attend a four hour
staircase safety motivational talk. Thanks for being safe and look for your email
notice to schedule your fitting appointment.
April Fools! But for real, staircase safety is no joke. Thousands of people are seriously
injured every year. The good news is the handrail is your fall protection on any staircase,
but only if you use it. Once someone begins to fall it is often too late to grab the handrail.
So do yourself and your family a favor and every single time you go up or down the stairs
use that handrail. It's the fall protection you need on the stairs.
