Working with Bristol's CANparent organizations has provided an exciting
opportunity to explore new and different ways of delivering parenting
and family support programs tailored to the needs of the community
It's also been a great opportunity to continue to work in partnership with
St. Paul's children centre and nursery school
and their families
[Chris] You're doing really well. Carry on.
that's a good question
yes and that's why you do it
So my name is Christopher Muwanguzi and i work for Family Matter Institute
which is rolling out PPPonline
The program
is for parents of children of nought to twelve years old
PPPonline is an adaptation of triple P.
It's very much about independent learning so
parents are able to do it on their own
The program is eight modules. Parents can do each module over thirty
minutes a day or a week so it can be done in eight weeks. So they could do one
module a week or they can do one module a day. Today we've been
introducing the parenting program triple P to both practitioners and to the
parents that will hopefully sign up to it
and what i've spent of the last two to three hours doing was taking
practitioners through
the blended approach that we hoping to use in Bristol.
Helping parents to be mentored or coached to have a key worker that supports the parent
through the first and second module and maybe comes back to the seventh and
eighth module with the parent.
I've just gone through the first module for the parent today
they all seem like it
and what we were doing today was introducing how easy and flexible it is
to use the parenting program.
My name is Rosa Lee
I felt I needed some more help with
the children
[Chris] The program uses video based modeling so most of the times the parent will be watching a
video clip
which is interactive and really about their experience. So parents able to very
easy to remember
what they did under each module and reflect on how they're putting that
into practice. And that the other really great thing about doing in thirty
minutes. It means that you do it in thirty minutes in one week but for the
rest of that we can test that out
and once you're done with the eight modules you can then go back and look over just to
see how you doing
Parents will also have the ability to record what they're learning, what they
don't understand what they're not sure about or where they have questions to ask
I did the first
module
and that has helped me a lot and it's given me
the confidence
to um...
to face all the challenges without feeling like I'm failing and feeling like
i have no help.
[Chris] It's a program that will be very useful for parents who
are busy and cannot afford to take the time out to coming into the services
like Children Centre to get that support
So for them it's anytime, any day, anywhere. What parents have said is it has strengthened
their relationship. They're supporting their children together
also managing behavior brings about a lot less stress for parents.
So parents are able to get on with their lives and feel a lot better and more positive
I hope that
this course will
fill the gaps
that i'd forgotten all about over the years.
We believe that parents are children's first and most enduring educators
and we want to find the best possible way to actually in-power them to be able
to take on this role with confidence while developing the skills they need
to really make a difference in their children's lives
