alright so we just set up terminal environments in os x
or windows and we now going to quickly go through and set
up four web services. i've included screenshots and you
know it'd be pretty straight forward but let me give you
a quick tour and you can go set all of this up on your own.
so lets get started by getting you set up with amazon web services
you're going to need an email account, a phone and a credit card to
begin, and in general i recommend that you use the same email, phone
and card for all the services or else you'll have headaches related
to service synchronization and stuff like that here
start off by going aws.amazon.com click the sign up at the top
sign in or create an aws account you're going to be a new user
your password your address and stuff and the captcha
at this point it's going to ask you for a credit card
now i understand there are some people in the class
without a credit card, what i say that you might do
is to get a prepaid debit card from walgreens or something
like that. like greendodge or the like has these prepaid cards.
um i understand that in some countries they don't have these
credit cards and unfortunately i don't think there's much we can
do in this iteration of the class, maybe in the second iteration
we'll have enough users that i can go to amazon and talk to them.
but right now, you'll need a credit card, but you won't need to
actually pay anything though, you'll be able to use a free tier
of amazon services if you use a t1 dot micro instance which is
what we're going to use for the majority of this class.
if you want more power you can always pay for it but your credit
card won't be billed, not unless you turn on a lot of services
and we're not going to ask you to. um this is just for them to
have it on record.
so enter your credit card and then you're going to have to do
an identity verification by telephone they do this because people can use these
machines for spam and other things
you're going to get a pin you enter in the pin
and then you've done your identity verification it'll say activating your account
and while that's going you'll be able to eventually log in
and you should be able to see a dashboard that looks something like this
and this welcome thing may or may not be there and this is really what we're going to work
on next. ec2. so that was amazon web services.
