>> When it comes to styling choices, it’s pretty difficult choosing between the Swift
and the i20, because both are good-looking cars. The new Swift has taken the styling
of the older Swift to a new level, with its longer swept back headlamps, flared fenders
and a new boot design that gives it a more sporty look.
The Hyundai i20 has always been a good looker, with its distinctly European styling influences.
However, some people don’t quite like the look of the rear, as it isn’t as attractive
as the rest of the car. But what gives the i20 an edge over the Swift is that it has
a little more space to offer. If you compare the interiors, the Swift has
a completely refreshed look. The interiors however still feel a little cramped because
of the dark grey plastics. The instrument panel looks good with a multi-info display
in the center. The centre console borrows its styling from the Kizashi, giving the car
a premium feel. Front seat comfort is good, but rear seats could still do with a little
more space. The i20 on the other hand has a more airy
feel with its chocolate brown and beige interiors. The rear seats especially are more comfortable
than the Swift. The instrument panel design is simple and straightforward, with blue backlighting.
But what the i20 offers more of is features. You get power folding mirrors… one feature
not seen in the Swift. All-round disc brakes are another feature seen in the top-end i20.
Otherwise both top-end variants of the Swift and i20 are quite nicely equipped with dual
airbags, steering audio controls, height adjustable seats and automatic climate control.
But when it comes to luggage room, the i20 with its split folding rear seats offers more
room than the Swift. The i20 can hold up to 295 litres of luggage. The Swift can only
squeeze in about 205 litres of luggage, which is even lower than the older Swift.
The ride and handling characteristics are vastly different. The Swift, both in petrol
and diesel form, offers a more sporty ride and is a driver-oriented car. The i20 on the
other hand does not have that positive a feel from the driver’s seat, but overall it’s
a more comfortable car. So which one should you pick? If you are a
person who loves driving, you can’t go wrong with a Swift. But if you have a family and
really want more space and ride comfort, the i20 is a better bet.
