Welcome To G-TV! Today I will be showing how to change the contacts on the ABB EH 80 and
EH 90 series of contactors. I will be using the EH 80 series of contactors for this demonstration
since the EH 80 and EH 90 use similar contacts and can be replaced using the same methods.
First, I will remove the front cover, which houses the arc chutes. To do this I will use
a T20 Torx screw or an SD 20 star bit. I will only need to turn the two screws a little
bit and they should pop up as they unlatch from the contactor’s body. I can then take
off the front cover and see my contacts within the contactor. The movable contacts are held
in place by a metal clamp. To remove the contact, I will push up on one side of the contact.
This should free the contact from the clasp and allow me to push the contact out of place.
Once I have taken out the movable contact, I can remove my fixed contact by using the
torx screwdriver. I will not need to change the size of the bit inside and will keep this
at a size 20. I will keep the screws here for my new contacts. Once I have finished
removing the fixed contacts, I can then drop my new contacts in and line up the hole on
the contact with the screw opening on the contactor. I can start to screw it in by hand
and then use my torx screw driver to tighten the contact down. I can then slide in the
movable contact by using the lip on the edge to push up on the clasp and then push it towards
the clasp. I may need to raise the clasp a little bit with the contact until the clasp
latches on. Now that my contacts have been replaced, I can place the arc chute cover
back on and use the torx screwdriver to push down on the screw and turn it 90 degrees clockwise
so that the bottom of the cover hooks on to the contactor’s base. Replacement kits for
the EH series of contactors along with thousands of other products and services are available
