Shilo Harris, again here. This time, Day 3 of the Entrepreneurship Bootcamp for Veterans
here at Texas A&M in College Station, Texas and today was, I know I keep saying this but
it's true, you know it was another amazing day. We met some of the most amazing people...
people that wanted to be there, wanted to help us and help guide us in the right direction
to becoming better entrepreneurs in some cases and also helping others establish their business.
Now today we talked about resources for disabled veterans or veterans with disabilities. We
also talked about financing. We had some guest speakers from the local area that were bankers
and investors and businesses and they tried to enlighten us on what to expect if going
to seek funds to, you know, further our business.
Now we also had a guest speaker today and she was amazing. She spoke about franchising.
Ms. Thompson from the Mr. Rooter business and I mean wow, you could see a lot of people’s
gears turning when she spoke. She's been an entrepreneur, she’s been in franchising.
I mean, whatever has happened she’s done and on top of that, she was a veteran and
her husband was a veteran and both of them were Marines. So, you know, it was a true
honor to meet her. And a lot of the people we've interacted with through this course
have been veterans or some kind of service related, I mean you know it, it really feels
like we're around friends and family because as you know in the military, you know, we
don't just establish working relationships.
You know you spend so much time with the men and women around you that they become more
than your friends, they become like family and on top of that you have to trust them
with your life. So you know that definitely takes a certain degree of connection between
service member to service member. So it's truly an honor to be around these men and
women that are fairly successful or extremely successful in what they do and they're here
to share with us and help us move on and be with what we're doing.
So this evening we had dinner at the Corps Center there at Texas A&M campus and this
place was filled with... history and honor and heroes. I mean... it was, it was moving.
You could feel the tradition of the Texas A&M campus in that hall and in that center
and with the men and women that were representing that center. Now we also had a guest speaker
for that event and I believe his name was James Woodall. He wrote the Texas Aggie - Aggies
Medal of Honor book that was actually, I don't know, I know some of you members of the Aggie
community already know this, but it was about the former students of Texas A&M that have
won the Medal of Honor and there's seven total. And tonight we got to read a little bit about
that history. We received a copy of his book with an autograph from the, from the young
man that wrote it and I mean it was truly amazing.
Again, another service member. He was an amazing gentleman that used to be an officer in the
military. I mean you name it, it's been really moving and I'm still trying to get over that
it's only Tuesday.
Yeah... I keep thinking well we're almost done, well we're just getting started. So
I look forward to talking to you tomorrow night and I hope you enjoy this and I will
see you down the road. Thanks.
