Hi everyone and welcome to Compaq Quick Tips. I'm Malou. Alright so I really want to clear
off my desktop so I'm going to take these folders
and I'm going to put them right here in my file cabinet. All done.
Alright, so how do I move the folders off my computer desktop
and into the file cabinet of my computer's hard drive? Well I can organize
them in Windows Explorer. So let me show you how.
First though, your computer features may not exactly match ours.
We're using Windows Vista on a Compaq computer, and then features may change
over time.
Okay, let's get started. Let me spin this around...
Okay, so the first step is to find something like an electronic file
cabinet to put your electronic files into.
Now I like to use a folder that Windows already has for us in Windows Explorer
called Documents, and let me show you how to open it.
I'm going to click on the Windows Start button in the left corner over here. From there I
will select
Documents, and that opens up the window.
Okay so now what you see, this is Windows Explorer, but pretend that it's a
file cabinet.
So the white window area is the Documents folder
and it's already opened. You can tell because you can see right here that it says
Documents
and then it says "The folder is empty." so there's nothing in it right now. So what I'm
going to do is drag a folder
from the computer desktop
into the open window area of Documents. Here's how you do that. So I'm going to
select Vacation 2009
with by mouse, drag, and drop.
Okay so now the folder is no longer here on the computer desktop area. It is now in
my Documents folder in Windows Explorer.
Now just like moving a folder off your desk and then into file cabinet.
Now you can also move the Documents window around just by clicking here in
the upper
section and then
just moving it around like that. You can also close it with the red X button.
Select that, and then click.
Okay so let's see how to find this folder again, okay? It's in the same place I
found it before.
Windows Start button on the left,
Documents, and there is. Vacation 2009. Now I know I'm in
Documents because it says it right up here
in the address bar.
To the left there it says Compaq PC because that's just the name of my PC. So yours could be
a different name. Now,
notice there are other folders that Windows has here called Documents,
Pictures, Music, so let's go ahead and select pictures.
What I'm going to do is drag one of my photos
into the folder. So I'm going to select
the rainbow,
dragging and dropping into the folder. Now I know that I'm in the pictures
folder because it says here, in the address bar "Pictures".
And now I've added the photo.
I can also make a new folder
by clicking on Organize,
selecting New Folder,
and there the new folder shows up. I'm going to name it Vacation
2010.
Press enter on the keyboard.
Now I'm going to double-click
to open it. This is an empty folder. Now I can tell where I am because you can see
in the address bar here it says Vacation 2010 so you always know
where you are within Windows Explorer. So,
I'm going to go ahead and click on Pictures to go back.
Now you'll see that there are some other items up here too like Open, and Slide Show
and View, so who want to explore and try all these things because you can do some fun stuff
here. So,
I'm going to select Views
and here you can select the size of the icons - of how you see the photos. I'm
going to select large icons. So now
the view of my photos is in the large icon mode. So see what else you can find to help you
get organized and work with the files in your
electronic file cabinet, and then make sure that you have some fun, okay?
Thanks for watching Compaq Quick Tips, and we will see you next time.
