Are you receiving a failure to connect error code when you try to link your Squarespace
website to an existing MailChimp list? Let me show you a work around. Go ahead and log
into your MailChimp account, go over to lists, find the list that you are trying to fix.
Click sign up forms, click general forms, make sure you are in the Signup form. It
should be the first one listed, make sure your in the Build it tab. When you linked
your Squarespace website to an existing list in MailChimp, Squarespace created additional
fields that were not in the original form that you made in MailChimp. Okay, so the process
that you went thru is you went to MailChimp, you created your list, then you went to Squarespace
you used either the newsletter block or the form block to link the two. When you did that,
Squarespace created new database fields in your existing MailChimp database so you have
double the amount of database fields that you originally had in MailChimp. So what you
need to do is go ahead and delete all of these original database fields that were in the
MailChimp account before you linked it to your Squarespace account. So in order to do
that, you find the fields that you had originally in your MailChimp list and delete those. So
first name and then first name would be one, last name might be another one. Message. It
really depends which ones you find that you need to delete because it depended on what
form you used. If you used the newsletter block and you checked the name field, chances
are that Squarespace added a name field to your MailChimp account even if it already
had a first and last name field. and you used what Squarespace has used for a template, you
have an additional field for message, you will have an additional field for first name,
an additional field for last name, and an additional field for email address and I think
that is all they added to the form block. Keep all the ones you want, but delete the
ones that were originally in your MailChimp list. So, I'm gonna go ahead and click the
minus icon and then I'm going to type in DELETE and then push the delete field button-that'll
delete it and you do it for each field that you want to get rid of. Let's refresh the
page just to make sure that it has saved the information that I want then you can go back
to your existing website that's on Squarespace and you want to log out of your admin if you
are already in there. Then you want to enter the email address you want to test. Make sure
that this is not an email address that is already in your MailChimp account, so use
a different one. And then click your sign up button, your go button, your subscribe
button, whatever you have used. You'll know right away if this has worked or not, because
you will receive the error code if something is not right. If that's the case, just go
back and go thru the process again, cause maybe you forgot to get rid of a field and
also you can try refreshing your browser and clearing your cache and the process to do
that is different for each browser that you use. So go ahead and put your email address
in there and then click the go button or the sign up button or subscribe button, whatever
you have changed your button code to be and then if you don't get an error code that's
great! Chances are that means it works and you'll be getting an email from MailChimp
to confirm your email address.
