Nitro Circus is back in November 2013 after it's sellout 2012 tour. So some of the guys
have come down to this skate park in deepest, darkest West London to show us what they can
do.
I'm gonna get involved myself but these are professional stuntmen, who know no fear.
I on the other hand am a professional coward, who knows plenty of fear. So when I go extreme,
I go extreme safety first.
But who to team up with for the most extreme skate stunt in history? How about Nitro scooterist
Ryan Williams?
Er, no.
So our second option is superstar inline skater Chris Haffrey. Unfortunately we've kept him
waiting for ages whilst we try to decide what to do. So he's really angry.
Ready?Don't try this at home kids. The skating part that is.
That was extreme. And now that I'm safely initiated into the Nitro Circus crew, I'm
going to meet Aaron Wheelz Fotheringham. A man who literally knows no fear.
But a skate park in London is child's play for Aaron. Because he's the only man in the
world able to backflip a wheelchair.
And sometimes, just for kicks, he does it on this. The 50ft gigantaramp. Mental.
So Wheelz, first off, how did you discover that you could backflip a wheelchair? There's
two ways I can see that going, one is a happy accident, two is a lot of broken face bones.
I got the idea through a bunch of bikers and friends who were, like, "you should do a backflip
on your wheelchair." And I was like, that sounds like a brilliant idea. So I got to
go to this park that has foam pits and stuff, it's called Woodward. I landed the first backflip
the second day, so I was pumped.
so it only took you two days to learn how to flip a wheelchair?
Two days in a foam pit is a long time!
So was it quite nerve=wracking the first time you put the foam to one side and thought "right
we're doing this for real".
Oh yeah because the first time was like the biggest roller I'd gone down at that time,
so doing that and then having to go for a backflip definitely got your heart pumping,
but once I stuck it all the crashes were completely worth it.
Had any accidents?
Oh yeah, I crash a pretty good amount of times but I guess that's part of the job and part
of the fun and part of the risk. But you've just got to curl into a ball and roll. My
favourite thing I've learned is how to fall. There's a correct way to fall and a bad way
to fall. And I've never broken a bone yet.
I do notice you've got a couple of nice little welts there.
Yeah, you definitely get a little bit of road rash here and there, definitely a lot of that.
Well last time I was in the UK I knocked myself out in our show. I decided to do a front flip
and then I also decided to take a nap, as you could call it, in the middle of the show...
They had to wake me up.
Nitro Circus is live in the UK from November 26th kicking off in Manchester.
