Dave, are you available for a few minutes, because there's something really important
I'd like to speak with you about?
As long as it's not about how your wife overcooked that pumpkin pie you so much wanted to have
last weekend, then I'm fine with it.
Maybe we'll get a bit into that later, but now I think I have some problems with my furnace
and since you're an expert on this kind of stuff, I'd like to ask you about this.
Sure, go ahead.
Well basically, I want to know if my furnace is broken or not. Can you give me some tips
on how to check that or maybe some useful steps that I should take?
Yes I can.
Really? Then please go ahead, I'm listening.
Well first you'll need to turn on your furnace, switch the thermostat to heat mode and increase
the temperature. If you don't feel the temperature changing, then switch the thermostat off.
So you're saying that if this happens, then it's my thermostat?
Precisely.
OK, please go on.
Check for dirt or dust around and in the thermostat and if there's any, clean it. Also, some thermostats
need to be level on the wall, so be sure yours is.
I got it.
Lastly, check the circuit breaker or fuse for the furnace and if it's tripped half-way,
switch it to the off position and then return it to the on position firmly.
OK…
If it will switch to the off position after that, then you need to call in a professional
and check it out.
I'll certainly do that.
Lastly, examine the duct work if you can access and see if there are any unsealed joints or
signs of cracking. If this is the case, well, then you can easily fix it on your own.
Now that’s what I'm talking about. Thanks a lot and you're invited this week to dinner
at my place: my wife will cook some of her famous pork chops, so you'll definitely love
them.
Any chances you can throw in some lamb too?
I think so!
