Welcome to the virtual launch of my agenda.
When I began my Listening Tour, I wanted to ask Australia two big questions:
How far have we come in our journey towards gender equality?
And where should we focus our efforts in the future?
Over the last seven months
I have travelled the length and breadth of this country;
capital cities, regional centres,
and remote towns across every state and territory.
During this time, I’ve personally met over 1,000 of you,
women and men, white collar, blue collar, young, old, Indigenous Australians,
African Australians, government Ministers, service providers, grandparents,
sons, sisters and dads.
And through the internet,
many of you have had your say on my blog,
and many thousands more have followed our journey.
You’ve inspired me
and enriched my understanding by sharing the everyday experiences
that make up the fabric of your lives.
You’ve put a human face
to the statistics that come across my desk every day.
You have told me that equality between women and men
will deliver important benefits to individuals, families, business,
governments, the economy and our community as a whole.
Your stories and ideas have shaped my agenda.
On this webpage,
there is an overview of the issues I will focus on in the next few years.
These are the issues which I understand would make a significant impact
on creating a fairer and more equal future.
A future where our girls and boys think that anything is possible.
Achieving gender equality for Australia is a shared vision.
Governments, community groups, researchers, business,
unions and individuals, we each play an important role.
I look forward to working with each and every one of you
to make this vision a reality.
I welcome your feedback on my agenda and I hope you will join me
in creating a better future for all Australians.
