My name is Jim. I'm from Austin, Texas, and I work for a music technology company
building computers built into synthesizer cases.
Me and my fiancée decided that we are not planning on having children at all. So we
have made that decision, and I don't plan on changing it any time in the near future
or distant future, so.... It was kind of something that was very well known in the beginning
of the relationship. It was one of the things that, you know, we really connected over was
the fact that neither of us ever wanted to have children.
She has actually had a tubal ligation, or, you know, having her tubes tied.
Which is, you know, a surgical procedure and, you know, quite an operation and not really
reversible, either, so.... I tried my best not to weigh too heavily on her decision. You know - you know,
obviously we both knew that we didn't want to have children at that point, so she
knew my opinion there. But I didn't want to say, "Yeah, that's a great idea. Get
it done." I wanted her to have to make the decision, so...
As far as I know, they tie off the tubes that carry the eggs from the ovaries, I guess.
Is that how that works? I'm - I'm not a scientist here [laughs]. But, you know,
they tie off the tubes and it basically keeps the *** from impregnating the eggs.
I do know another woman that's had it done, too, and she was actually out the next night
dancing after her surgery. So she had no problems with it whatsoever. My girlfriend, however,
it took her a couple of weeks to recover fully. You know, there is a little bit more bruising
on her, and she was a little bit more tender, so.... But, you know, I guess the side effects
there really kind of, you know, vary. But other than that, I don't think there really
is a whole lot of side effects. You know, not like you would traditionally see with,
you know, a pill-type birth control or anything like that.
Yeah, I would say after it was done, I mean, there was definitely an improvement in our
sex life. We definitely had a lot less to worry about. You know, we could go straight
from, you know, the arousal period right into sex, and not have to like stop and put on
a *** and break the mood. Don't have to worry about, you know, doing the pull-out
trick when you finish at the end. And - and you just, it's way easier to just, you know,
be in the moment and actually enjoy the sex and not have to worry about, you know, the
potential consequences that could, you know, come out of it.
If I had had insurance it might have been a – a safer bet for me to have the procedure done.
The vasectomy is more easily reversible. It's cheaper and it's less invasive.
But, you know, again it wasn't really an option. So not really, you know, something I could
have done. But, you know, had I had insurance, that may have been the way we would have gone.
