Hi, and welcome to this new episod that's dealing with AMD's new CPU, the Phenom II X4.
Announced for the 8th January 2009, these new AMD models bring the support of AM2+ and AM3 socket,
the 3Ghz base frequencies, a total cache memory up to 8mb and the 45nm process technology
Yes you well heard, this CPU will not only support the AM2+ Socket that enables the DDR2 memory support,
but also the AM3 socket and so the support of DDR3.
Thanks to this, the users will be able to switch to the new standard of motherboard
and memory when they want.
For the core, AMD with the Frequency augmentation up to 3GHz base clock,
AMD added 4mb more cache tant in the Phenom fist generation.
So in this the Phenom we get more speed, more cache and the support of DDR2 and DDR3 AMD plateform.
More performance but in exchange of what ?
We all remember about the Cool'n Quiet tehnology introduced by AMD that permits an important reducing of the CPU's power consumtion.
For this news CPU series,
AMD used the same technlogy in his new version and takes part of the 45Nm process technology
to reduce the power consumption and the heating as well
This CPU is annouced as supporting the Energy Star 5.0
AMD choosed to launch for begin of 2009 two new models.
The Phenom II X4 920 @ 2,8GHz and the Phenom II x4 940 @ 3GHz unlocked.
AMD started to give out some sample of the Phenom II x4 940 and the first result are,
we have to admit, amazing.
The actual record is arround 6 GHz under LN2 by with 0 cold bug for the moment !
AMD added also to this CPU a new software called Overdive 3.0
that as you can see permit us to tune the different votages of the CPU direct from your Desktop.
A real comfort for us overclocker, this piece of software is also able to run some basic benchmarks
to test the stability of the system after modifying the voltages etc..
Will be the Phenom II x4 the follower of the Celeron for frequencies records ?
We'll findout in the next few months.
This ends this episod, enjoy overclocking for the new year 2009. I'm Xyala for OCTV. Ciao !
