My name's Steve Madera and I own a business called Song in the Woods.
It's hands-on experience. That's my
big selling point, I think. You help harness dogs, you help hook them up.
You get time to pet the dogs. You go for awhile
then stop and take pictures. You get the thrill
of going down the hill and around the corners.
And you feel, feel tired at the end
of the day. Like you've done something.
Some people do just rides where they have
clients sit in the sleds, but for coming with us
it's about being part of the team and about working with the dogs.
Racing is gone from point A to point B as fast as you can.
But for me it's more about being out with the dogs
and seeing nature and
working as a team member.
And I think the dogs should enjoy it too. And I think that
rushing for deadlines—there's enough of that in the world.
The thing I hear the most from people is how sweet the dogs are.
Because if you go to a race, the dogs are all hyper
and crazy and out of their minds. All they want to do is run and go like crazy, out of their minds.
And these dogs are a lot mellower.
We run in the Moosehead Lake Area.
We run a lot out toward Little Lyford Pond Camp,
Gorman Chairback,
West Branch Pond Camp and
Medawisla, when that's open.
It's just fantastic. The beauty. I love the mountains.
The trails that we run
you know, it's non-motorized in the AMC lands.
I really, really appreciate that.
I love doing this. I love being with the dogs.
For me, I can have a bad day, and at the end of the day
go down into the dog yard and it just kind of mellows me out. I just like being around them.
