Hello and welcome to Todd's kitchen. Not to long ago i made soy milk
If you missed that video i will leave a link at the end of this video.
But since then i have had allot of people ask me how to make tofu
Tofo believe it or not is incredibly easy to make
and allot cheaper then what you would pay in the shops. So join me today as i make my version of tofu.
I have a pot on the stove on a
low to medium heat. To that i will pour in
our soy milk
Keep stiring until the milk reaches eighty degrees celsius. So make sure you have a
thermometer ready because thats
the best way to judge
So you want to bring it up to just before boiling point. You don't want the soy milk to boil
You want to take it of the heat before it boils
which is about eighty degrees
While the soy milk is heating up i have one cup of water
to that has three tablespoons of vinegar
If you don't want to use vinegar you can also use lemon.
Now that it has reached eighty degrees celsius its time to take it of the heat
next with our cup of water and vinegar
pour half into the pot and stir through
once mixed through
stop stirring
now pour
in the other half a cup
and just slowly
mix it through
in a figure eight. Now as you can see it is
separating nicely. You have the distinct white bits separating from the liquid
Keep stirring for another thirty seconds
Next i have a strainer in the sink
lined with cheese cloth
As i have said before you can buy it from allot of fabric shops
Now im going to carefully
pour our mixture into the cheese cloth
Because the solids are very fine
you do need a cheese cloth but if you can't find a cheese cloth pantyhoes also work well. Just make sure you layer them
Once its almost completely drained just cover it up
with our cheese cloth
next place something on top, something with weight
Im going to use this bowl and add some water to it
and im going to let that sit there for about
an hour to drain out the excess liquid
from the tofu. I have had this pressed down for
an hour now and its nice and compacted
So all you have to do now
is cut it up into your desired shapes
to use how ever you like to use your tofu in your recipes.
So that is how simple and easy it is
to make tofu. Now if you want to store this longer
you can place it in the fridge, it will lat one to two weeks by placing it in a sealed container and have it
immersed in cold water. So the tofu will be covered in water
It won't dissolve so don't worry and what that will so
is help preserve it for a good
one to two weeks
Now i just made a small batch here
to demonstrate how to make tofu
but there is no limit to how much tofu you want to make
But if you make a small amount or a large amount, this tofu in a lovely recipe
is going to taste simply delicious
and it is so much cheaper and satisfying
making your own tofu at home because it is so simple so easy so cheap
there are no preservatives
colours or flavours, you just have the
pure stuff right there.
