Age is just a number. Actually, on Mt. Hood, I was with a team of
20-somethings. No problem. We just kept right on going. And we were going pretty quick.
I'm a pretty straightforward guy. I'm just Jim Geiger. How ya' doing?
My kids and my grandkids are the most important thing in my life. And I'm living my life so
that they can see I'm there for them, and can be there for them a long time.
There is no need to feel as you get older that you need to be decrepit and can't do
things. Baloney!
You can. You can sustain a high quality of life well into old age.
And I'm here doing it. Mt. Rainier, Mt. Whitney, Pyramid Peak several
times, Humphreys, Shasta, Keenes Peak, Wheeler, Albert, Vincent, Bonne Peak, Castle Peak yesterday.
There's probably some I'm forgetting. I just keep climbing. I don't keep track of
them too much. So at least probably five more before I get to Everest.
Can I do Everest? Can I knock off the biggest one there is? It's not a given that I'm going
to make the top of the mountain. I need to be cautious. I need to have safety
first. One misstep, and off you go. People have walked off the side of Everest.
I have an intention in life. I try to explain this intention out to the universe that it's
going to happen. I'm Jim Geiger, and in May of 2014, I will
be the oldest American to summit of Mt. Everest. I will also have been the first great grandfather
to summit Mt. Everest. It's gonna' happen, man. It's gonna' happen.
