My names Jean-Luc and I'm the youngest of four children raised by a single mother. Growing
up we always had to deal with budget and restrictions, a lot of things we couldn't do. And part of
my life was always to figure out what I want to do with what I have. It took a lot of imagination
and planning and so I always had a mind for putting things together financially always
had a curiosity. So naturally I graduated in Business Administration with an accounting
minor and finance concentration, passed the CPA exam, went to work in public accounting
and discovered financial planning. All of the sudden all those things I had done all
my life which is putting myself through college on a self-supporting basis came together.
I could take my education, me life experience and bring it into a practice that was helpful
to clients. The very function of a CPA is to interpret information that clients don't
interpret on their own in a way they can rely on. Very often they bring us confusion and
we give them clarity in return. Trust is one of the building blocks of the relationship.
The relationship is built on knowledge, they depend on you for your knowledge and that
is what draws them to you and the trust is built over time. Very often people say from
the get go "trust me" but it just doesn't work this way you have to provide building
blocks. I try to be that person in my clients’ life. I try to have the skill to tell them
what they need to hear in a way that they're willing to accept what I say. If I can be
that one person they can depend on for an honest opinion, I think I've done my job.
