>>> Holmes: This short film looks at how Buckinghamshire County Council is working to bring better
broadband to the area. >>> Pratt: So what we've done is we've taken
a look across the county to see who's served and who isn't serve the level service. We
look for not-spots and we've come up with a plan to invest some central government money
-- some local government money and some local enterprise partnership money, and that's £16
million in all to enable 16 thousand businesses or premises across the county to be enabled
super-fast, high-speed broadband. >>> Swayne: Hi I'm Andy Swayne, I'm CEO of
evolution international group, we're based here in Wingrave. We're an international business
with offices in Spain and in Bangkok in Thailand. >>> Hope-Walker: My name's Vicky Hope-Walker
and I'm a creative producer of projects -- mainly community-based projects.
>>> Swayne: We are at the end of the line as far as far as modern IT is concerned, which
is not good when part of what we do is make video! Clients expect us to be able to upload
video all hours of the day and night at the flick of a button. And when we go like that, three hours later the video uploads so poor is our connection.
>>> Hope-Walker: The high-speed broadband has been absolutely fantastic for me; it has
made my connectivity to schools and cultural organisations, both within this country and
over-seas so much better. If I compare it to a year ago when I didn't have that, some
of the technical problems that we faced as a consequence and the let-down that that had
with it, its just such a huge step in the right direction.
>>> Swayne: From a county-wide perspective, the super-fast broadband project is only going
to be good news. If businesses can connect at decent speed then we have a chance on an
international footing to compete. >>> Hope-Walker: I'm very much aware that
the county has been sort of looking and supporting getting high-speed broadband at -- across
the whole area, which I think is fantastic, I think having that central and coordinated
approach is absolutely the right way to do it.
>>> Swayne: Any super-fast broadband for the area's got to be good news.
>>> Hope-Walker: From a personal perspective I know it will improve my work in the county
as well so for example with schools who might want to link to cultural organisations that
are too far away for them to visit, I know it will make life a lot easier for them and
I know there's the people out there realty keen to start making those connections and
using high speed. >>> Pratt: Today with Bucks Business First
which has got nearly 3000 members and about 30% of the private sector, employment base
and membership. Working pro-actively with our local authorities, Bucks County Council
and the District as well, we're able to work out what business actually does want, does
need when it needs it and just trying to make it happen. So instead of everybody throwing
stones at one another we're all in it together to try and keep us prosperous.
