How to Start Filling Out Your FAFSA Online
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid
(FAFSA)
is one of the most important forms students can fill out to see if they are eligible for
financial aid.
It can be confusing and may seem lengthy to complete,
but it is not impossible.
Here are the steps to get you started:
Step One:
Pre-FAFSA Preparation
Apply for an electronic signature
by going to
www.pin.ed.gov
Getting a pin will enable you to access your FAFSA
and allow you to sign your FAFSA electronically for submission.

Click on
Before Beginning a FAFSA
then select
Documents Needed on the left hand column.
Please gather all the documents listed on this page.
Once you have gathered all the necessary documents,
you can go back to the FAFSA home page.
Step Two:
Filling out your FAFSA
Once you are on the FAFSA home page,
click on
Fill Out Your FAFSA
under number 2.
This will get you started.
Select the FAFSA application you want to fill out.
Then click on next.
You will then be required to establish your FAFSA account.
Start typing in your responses to the questions.
If you are not sure about what they are asking for,
look to the box on your right hand side.
This Help and Hints box will give you information and clarification about the specific question
you are on.
You are now on your way!
Continue through the application by clicking on next.
You all know that you have submitted your FAFSA application once you get to a confirmation
page at the end.
We suggest that you also click on SAVE for every few pages that you complete, just in
case.
Remember to look at the box on the right-hand side if you get stuck on a question.
This will tell you what they are asking for
and what documents you can find the information in.
Please remember you will never have to pay to apply for financial aid.
If a website asks you for payment information you are on the wrong website!
