US court bans portions of controversial anti-immigration law. In a ruling on Wednesday, July 28, US
Federal Judge Susan Bolton suspended portions of an Arizona state bill that included a requirement
for police to check the immigration status of any person they stopped for any type of
infraction if they suspected that person may be in the country without proper documentation.
A concern had been by lawmakers and citizens alike that such a measure could lead to unfair
treatment of Hispanic residents, who represent the largest minority group in Arizona. The
Obama presidential administration had also filed a lawsuit saying that under the US Constitution,
the primary responsibility for immigration lies with the national rather than the state
government.
Honorable Judge Bolton, we appreciate your fair ruling and look forward to the day when
a need for borders is eliminated as humanity unites in harmonious respect and understanding
as a global community
