Okay Kelly, can you tell me maybe...
...a bit more about Constance Spry?
Constance Spry, she was like a powerhouse...
...of 1930's interior design.
She was a big deal in flower arranging at the time.
Flower arranging was obviously a lot more popular...
...in the 1930's than it is today.
And she had a kinda close personal and working relationship with Gluck.
So they were lovers but she also got a lot of comissions...
...with members of society at the time.
Okay, so is it around the same time that Gluck invented this frame?
Is that a bit later, or?
It was around the same time that she painted this frame, called a Gluck frame...
...and the idea was that it had three tiers painted to the same colour of the room.
And it made the painting an integral of the architecture of the room.
It was quite a unique idea at the time.
Oh, great.
Do you know anything about the flower in the painting?
The flower in the painting is a Brugmansia, which is sometimes called an angel's trumpet.
It's a witch's garden flower.
And it's associated with love potions, and can induce delirium and death!
